Updated!

It has been confirmed that Thorsten Kaye will tape his final scenes in New York and will not continue as Zach when the show moves to Los Angeles.

Original Article

Longtime All My Children cast member Ray MacDonnell, who plays Dr. Joe Martin, will not join the cast when the show moves to Los Angeles at the end of this year. Instead, he will retire.

In the same press release, it was confirmed that another vet, Susan Lucci, who plays Erica Kane, will continue in her role. She will not move her family to L.A., however, but will commute to tape scenes.

Others continuing in their roles include: Brittany Allen (Marissa), David Canary (Adam), Bobbie Eakes (Krystal), Melissa Claire Egan (Annie), Stephanie Gatschet (Madison), Ricky Paull Goldin (Jake), Vincent Irizarry (David), Michael E. Knight (Tad), Jamie Luner (Liza), Adam Mayfield (Scott), JR Martinez (Brot), Cameron Mathison (Ryan), Debbi Morgan (Angie), Cornelius Smith, Jr. (Frankie), Denise Vasi (Randi), Darnell Williams (Jesse), and Jacob Young (JR). Thorsten Kaye (Zach) will not make the move to L.A., but may commute, and Alicia Minshew (Kendall) will be on maternity leave as of November.

Soaps.com wishes Ray all the very best in his retirement and thanks him for all of the wonderful years of entertainment he has provided to Daytime fans! Feel free to leave comments for Ray here with Soaps.com below!

Why would they move Madison to LA. Isn't it time for her nightmare of a story to end? I guess The Pine Valley Stupidity is going to drive this soap to end!

I agree - WHY move Madison? Does that mean we have to continue watching her smarminess!?!?

If Thorsten Kaye is not playing Zach, will they recast??

I hope they will let Joe Martin retire with grace and dignity...he deserves this and so do the VIEWERS..his family is what centered the show from the beginning.

Are we to assume that people NOT on the list (Daniel Kennedy, Jill Larson, the various children, etc.) are NOT making the move? Will they be re-cast?

Also, what LA-based actors and actresses will be rejoining the show? I hope that James Mitchell (ex-Palmer) is one of them.

Well yet another reason for me not to watch AMC. Zack and Tad were the last thing keeping me interested.

I am going to miss Dr.Joe. The Martins started this great soap. I hope TIIC give him a great farewell and hope that he will included in major events in the future.

Don't understand why Madison is making the move. Oh well.

It was recently announced Jill Larson will not be part of the cast after the move.

It won't be All My Children without the part of Joe Martin. I have watched the program since the days when it centered around the Martins and Tylers. Those days are over and the show will never be as good as it was then.
What a shame. When characters on the show had problems, you could count on Joe or Ruth to give good counsel. Now who will be the wise elderly sage on the show? Certainly not the character of either Erica or Adam.

Someone else posted a wish/hope that Joe & Ruth retire to Florida....sounds like a great send off, but knowing Joe he & Ruth will be off to Africa to work with Jeff & Jamey.

Lord, what have they done to AMC??? It's just sad.
